2025 Forage Season

The 2025 winter forage season highlighted the value of high-performing genetics across triticale, wheat, oats, barley, and ryegrass. Throughout California and surrounding markets, growers saw strong biomass production, excellent feed quality, and dependable performance across a wide range of growing conditions. From early-season forage opportunities to high-tonnage harvests, these products delivered the consistency needed to support dairy and livestock operations. Field evaluations reinforced the importance of selecting varieties that combine yield, digestibility, standability, and forage quality. At Lockwood Seed & Grain, we remain committed to identifying and delivering winter forage products that help growers maximize feed production, improve ration value, and drive profitability from every acre.

New Product

WB 9444 is the newest release from the WestBred wheat program and is available exclusively through Lockwood Seed & Grain. This early-maturing, beardless wheat reaches harvest 7–10 days ahead of WB Patron and 14–18 days earlier than WB 9990 and PR 1404, providing growers with valuable flexibility in their cropping programs.

Designed for dryland acres, SGMA-impacted ground, and lighter soils, WB 9444 excels in environments where water management and crop timing are critical. Its earlier maturity allows growers to harvest sooner and move into the next crop—particularly corn—while reducing irrigation pressure and maximizing the growing season.

Whether grown for forage, premium hay, or grain, WB 9444 offers outstanding versatility. It combines strong grain yield potential with excellent starch levels and high protein content, making it an ideal fit for dairy and livestock operations seeking quality feed. When harvested as forage, it delivers the nutritional value needed for heifer and dairy cow rations while maintaining the flexibility to be taken to grain if market conditions warrant.

For growers looking for a high-performing, beardless wheat that provides multiple marketing opportunities and dependable performance across a range of conditions, WB 9444 is a valuable addition to any fall planting plan.
